Exploring Ganzhou's Ancient Areas & City Wall

Hey Hey and a Big G'Day Toya,

I was only going to stay two nights. Ended up staying a week.

As I was only going to use Ganzhou as a transit city I didn't bother with any research on it before leaving Jinggang Shan. What I did do was ask the two guys I had met if they knew of a temple or park I could visit on my one day there and they gave a friend a call and then gave me the characters for the Wen Temple which I gave to the taxi driver when I headed out on my first day.

When I arrived I was surprised to find a ticket booth with a single visit entry fee along with a more expensive multi site ticket. Ok I thought, then there are obviously more interesting things to see in Ganzhou, especially as they went about creating a multi ticket. So after visiting the temple I pointed to what I believed was just a 'China' picture on the ticket which was a picture of a City Wall and surprisingly the lady pointed down the road and told me that I could walk there.

So I clicked my heals and off I went. Opps false start!

I past by a noodle joint with a picture of a bowl of noodles I'd never seen before with pork on the bone, thick strands of seaweed, peanuts and coriander so I thought, the walls have obviously been there for heck of a long time, I reckon I've time time to squeeze in a bowl of noodles. After I finished I exchanged clicking my chopsticks for my heals and off I went again and not long after there it was, Ganzhou city was once a fortified city.

It took me the next many days to see everything simply because I had no map and only knew that all the sites had to be in the one area as I had figured out that this was where Ganzhou first began. Along with that came a few late starts due to slight hangovers from sharing beers and meat sticks with tables of locals and also of course, the travellers dreaded 'friend', Rain!

Ganzhou City History

In 201, Emperor Gaozu of the Han Dynasty established a county in the territory of modern Ganzhou and now Ganzhou still has what is believed to be the only 'intact' ancient brick city. Human settlers moved to this region four or five thousand years ago and before the Qin Dynasty (221BC-206BC) it was put under the administration of Jiujiang Shire, Ganzhou was a part of the Chu Kingdom in the Warring States Period (476BC-221BC). By the Three Kingdoms Period (220-280), a city-level administrative apparatus had been established, which is said to be the initiation of city-level governing bodies in of of southern Jiangxi.

Ciyun Dagoba Located in downtown Ganzhou, Ciyun Dagoba was erected in 1023 in the Northern Song Dynasty and stands at forty two meters high.

Confucian Temple Situated in southwestern Ganzhou the Wen Miao Confucian Temple covers over nine thousand square meters and is the largest Confucian temple in Jiangxi. The buildings in the temple were constructed in both the styles of the north and south of China.

The Death of My Trust Old Toshiba

During my stay here in Ganzhou my trusty old Toshiba NB200 finally died.

We've been on the road together for six years now and she was the best computer I've ever owned. Absolutely perfect, always cooked my meals, did the dishes and washed my clothes up until this years Winter Beers N Noodles Adventure when she finally told me that she had had enough of being my slave.

It was time to slowly let her go. On the 2nd she wouldn't do the dishes. On the 3rd she would cook me a big juicy dog burger.

So I did what all men would do, I went to the huge computer store up the road and began checking out much younger, slender and more beautiful models to put beneath my finger tips who would do any thing I asked and demanded. For two days they threw themselves at me and I finally feasted my peekers on exactly what I was looking for. She was cheap and nasty, yet beautiful with a much larger brain and she was extremely quick to jump at my commands.

HaHaHaHa: I finally ended up with an Acer Aspire One725, 500GB and 4GB running along with an AMD processor which is perfect for blogging so I chose to stay with Windows 7 and Office 7. I was so tempted with all the other 'new stuff' but I am really not a Swisher nor a Swiper nor even a Snapper so I chose to stay away from Windows 8 for now.

I checked out all the pads, tablets, powders and creams but I like...keys beneath my tips!
